CONTINUE USING THE MEDIA MIXER v2 FOR € 10,-

2008-01-26 Since my last announcement that I was grounding the Media Mxier project, I've received some e-mails from frustated users who still want to use the Media Mixer after they change their hardware. The Media Mixer license key is binded to the hardware, and when free registered users change parts of their hardware, the license key will become invalid.

I've considered this also kind of unfair for those who have supported the project, and help developing it to the point I'm leaving it. So, I've decided to create a tool that will act as an license key generator. When run, it'll fake the Media Mixer as it is an unlimited trial license. In this way you don't need a hardware binded license key, and you can continue using the program on your computer(s). In return I ask a donation of € 10,- on my Postbank account.

MEDIA MIXER PROJECTS GROUNDED

2008-01-20 Some months ago I've posted a message on the site announcing the Media Mixer projects were experiencing problems due to lack of financial support of the freeware product. Since then, not much has changed, so that's why I've decided to shut the projects down.

WHY ARE THE PROJECTS GROUNDED?

When I started the Media Mixer project 6 years ago, it was a practical project to finish my computer interface technology study I followed. I've made the program for a local radio station near Rotterdam I worked for in my spare time. At the time I also did a dance radio program every Saturday night that was called "Dance Boost", explaining the name of the software.

In the last year I moved out of the neighborhood of the radio station, and my role there has became a little less active. More behind the scenes of the station. Making this software no longer an active hobby project. I decided to send a message to the 500 users of the program and tried to get enough money to make the project break-even. That means, enough donations to make it available to the users at no costs for me. Eventually, this did not happen, so that's why I'm forced to shut the projects down.

I will still work on the project for myself, and the radio station I work for. But new versions of the program will no longer be posted on the site. On the end of the yearly term, this site will shut down as well.

DONATIONS

As of now, 3 users have donated to the project, with a total of € 50,-. These 3 users may receive newer versions of the program if they would like that. They will also receive email support if they have any questions or problems with the Media Mixer.

EMAIL SUPPORT

At the moment I receive 50 upto 75 e-mails a week with questions, license requests, ideas, complaints and comments. Answering them takes so much free time, which I don't want to spend anymore. I'm also a professional software developer during weekdays, making the Media Mixer no longer a hobby project when I come home. Developing and instructing people is my job for which I get paid, and I don't want to do this in my spare time for free anymore.

Besides the people who have donated to the project, support will no longer be given. Current users of the program may use the Media Mixer Forum at http://www.danceboost.com/forum to find user-to-user solutions.

CURRENT USERS

Current users of the Media Mixer may still use the program. But, when they change parts of their hardware, the license key will fail since it's binded to the hardware. At that moment, no new license will be given out.

THE WEBSITE

The account of this site is till active for a couple of months, after that the site will close.

New version of the Silence Detector (v1.3) has been published

2007-12-02 After a request from one of the users to implement some more functionality in the Silence Detector I have published a new version of the program on the site. As a matter of fact, he reported a bug in the logger, which will flood during silence. When I solved this bug, I also decided to implemtn his request as well.

New features and bug fixes

  • In some cases the logger floods during silence. This has been fixed.
  • The left and right channel can be named. In this way you can set up a stereo jack to guard two audio lines at the same time. By naming the channels, you will get a customized email notification refering to the channel names instead of naming them "left" and or "right" channel.
  • The new VU meters of the Media Mixer v3 have been implemented on the detector page of the Silence Detector.

Donate directly via Postbank (Netherlands)

2007-09-10 Since a couple of months I opened a PayPal-account to let the software users donate some spare bucks to let me be able to pay the infrastructure (website, domain name, development tools, etc). Some of the people didn't like to pay via PayPal, so I've decided to make it also possible to donate directly via a Dutch Bank account (Postbank).

Due to the fact that the software is free for download, all expenses are payed by myself. And while not much has been donated so far, it's getting pretty hard to keep this up. To this I am seriously planning to stop the projects and sell the source code to one of the commercial companies that are already showing interest in it. Actually I prefer not doing that, because I trully believe in the project as it is. But, I actually would appriciate it even more to at least pay the costs for the website with it.

I will decide in the next couple of months which way it has to go. I will keep you updated on my site.

Check the updated donation page with direct bank account data.

Introducing Super List in Media Mixer v3

2007-08-12 In alpha version 5 of the Media Mixer we are introducing a new feature called "Super List". With this extra added tab on the Track List browser tree, you can combine all created (sub)presets together and create a full list of all your tracks. You can use it if you are not sure in which preset a track is stored in, or if you want to do a special radio program or evening on one artist. Off course all filter options are available in the Super List as you were using them in the common track listings.

Some extra chek options are placed to make the Super List satisfy your needs. You can let it skip double track listings or include the folder cache in the Super List creation.

Introducing Mix Assist in Media Mixer v3

2007-08-03 Since a couple of years we introduced our revolutionairy mix system ILAMS (Intelligent Listening And Mixing System). This system can 'listen' itself to decide where the next track should be mixed in. It calculates the end cue itself and is always ready to take over to play non-stop for you. Even if the tracks are never played in the Media Mixer before.

In Media Mixer v3 we have introduced version 2 of the ILAMS controller and further integrated it's features. In Alpha version 4 an extra module has been added to the ILAMS controller that is called "Mix Assist". Mix Assist will help the DJ mix to the next track in a live session. It'll give the DJ some hints when the next track should be started and counts down from the last 10 secondes, as well as the texture of the track ending. For example, an abrupt ending, or a fast fade-out.
